Trial Lawyer Laura Benitez Geisler Begins Historic Dallas Bar Association Presidency
Geisler becomes first Hispanic to lead the DBA in its 145-year history
DALLAS – Trial attorney Laura Benitez Geisler will be sworn in as the 110th Dallas Bar Association president on Jan. 12, becoming the first Hispanic member to lead the organization.
The Dallas Bar Association is a 145-year-old professional, voluntary body of more than 11,000 Dallas-area lawyers. The DBA serves as an educational resource for its members as well as a contributor to public service programs in the community. “The Dallas Bar Association is among the strongest and most active in the country, and I’m looking forward to the year ahead,” said Ms. Geisler. “I’ve been an active member of the Dallas Bar my entire career, having served on the Board of Directors since 2006. I am eager to get to work in this new and challenging role.”
Among her goals as president will be to highlight the importance of protecting the independence of the judiciary through a series of programs on the history and challenges facing an independent judiciary, the development of a “Life Skills for Lawyers” series and a “Legal Incubator” program designed to help young attorneys become successful practitioners.
Ms. Geisler has served as president of the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers. She was elected to chair the Dallas Bar board in 2015 and served as president of the Dallas Women Lawyers Association in 2003. As the co-chair of the 2014-15 Equal Access to Justice Campaign benefitting the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, she helped raise more than $1.1 million for pro bono legal services for low-income Dallas County residents.
Ms. Geisler has 21 years of experience representing clients in personal injury and wrongful death cases. She has achieved multimillion-dollar jury verdicts and settlements on behalf of her clients.
She has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America and Texas Super Lawyers and has earned a National Diversity Council listing among the Top 50 Multicultural Lawyers in Dallas and Top 50 Women Lawyers. The Hispanic National Bar Association also honored Ms. Geisler with its Top Lawyer Under 40 award in 2011. Ms. Geisler recently merged her firm to form Sommerman, McCaffity, Quesada & Geisler, L.L.P..
